Japanese traditional cuisine
UNESCO has named the traditional Japanese cuisine "Washoku", a World Heritage Site. Why this is so, I would like to explain in this article.
Japanese people live longer than the average. The reason for this is not yet fully understood, but everyone knows that healthy food is important for health and growing old. In Japanese cuisine, little, fat, sugar or salt is used. That doesn't make it easy for beginners, because they first have to get used to the fact that food doesn't necessarily have to be hearty, but also sometimes hearty.
Japanese cuisine today
Unfortunately the Japanese cuisine has changed a lot. Through globalization, the West has more and more influence on the culture of the Japanese. What's frightening is that Japan is the second most populated country in terms of MacDonal's stores. Subway, KFC and other fast food chains have also established themselves in Japan. Since Japanese people often work 10 - 12 hours and usually only have a small kitchen, because the housing prices in the city are very expensive, people often go for fast food. In the article "Eating the Japanese really healthy" I have explained the topic in more detail.
Fish is very important
In Japan, fish is the be-all and end-all. Whether sushi, sashimi, soup or grilled, there is fish in everything. Why is that? Japan is a very big island. And there's sea almost everywhere. That's why they focus more on fish than on meat. If you're a vegetarian, you're in a bad spot in Japan.
