你的本國醫療保險在海外大多不適用。這代表萬一生病時，你得自己全額支付所有醫療費用。而在日本看病的確比較貴。所幸官方有規範費用上限，讓病人不至於被坑，但複雜的治療（如手術、MRI等）還是會相當昂貴，整體可能動輒數千歐元！因此我強烈建議你出國前一定要辦理海外旅遊醫療保險。也請先確認自己是否已受保障，也許你的信用卡或是像 ADAC 會員本身就包括海外醫療保險服務。
但要注意：大多數情況下你必須先自付醫療費，然後才能將醫生收據送交保險公司申請理賠，最後才能拿回費用。下文還會更詳細介紹這個流程。

海外旅遊醫療保險
對我來說，這是絕對必備的！如果你在旅行時真的發生意外，必須開刀怎麼辦？也許你以為自己可以飛回國醫治。但如果醫生不准搭機怎麼辦？那你就只能自己負擔高額的日本醫療費，可能輕鬆破千歐元甚至更多！
我「有幸」已經在日本醫院蓋過不少章（哭臉）。所以現在我絕不敢沒有旅遊醫療保險就出國！
信用卡
我個人用的是「Miles and More Gold」信用卡，最多能保障 90 天海外停留，直接附帶醫療保險。包含「保險公司賠付無上限」這個條件非常方便。實際意思是萬一生病我不需自付額。還有回國的醫療後送服務也包含在內。
ADAC
ADAC 會員可以加購海外醫療險。共分三種方案，但都涵蓋門診、住院、牙醫與醫療後送等服務。

Hansemerkur
Hansemerkur 也提供 旅遊醫療保險 ，約 1.5 歐元／天。你可以直接線上購買，若提早回國也可取消申請退費。
如何拿回保險理賠？
你必須先自行支付所有醫療費（診治時會拿到收據），然後拿著收據及理賠申請表向保險公司申請理賠。將所有治療內容（可由收據得知）詳實說明，大多保險可網路或 Email 申請。提交資料齊全，通常就會全額退費。
請注意你從醫生那裡取得的收據必須包含所有必要的資料：醫生姓名與地址、你的姓名與地址、所有治療內容及用藥明細。如果缺少這些資料，保險公司有可能拒絕理賠。另外還要留意是否有最高理賠限額或不包含的治療項目。重要提醒：旅遊醫療保險一般只承保急迫必要的治療；例行健康檢查通常不會理賠，須自己支付。
我的收據是日文的——怎麼辦？
有時你會拿到日文收據，這種情況保險公司看不懂報表。你可以先問醫生能否給英文版收據；若辦不到，可能你需自行安排翻譯。請先問保險公司是否真的需要，他們是否要求翻譯要有合格認證。有需要時，醫療收據你可到 這裡 或 這裡 請人翻譯。不過需留意這些服務會產生費用，小型醫療費不一定划算。建議事先估算能理賠回多少錢，再決定要不要翻譯。
在日本哪裡買藥？
在日本，藥品多由 Drug Store 販售，幾乎跟便利商店一樣常見！
日本 Drug Store 到底是什麼？
日本的 Drug Store 跟德國藥局完全不同，比較像大型藥妝店。Drug Store 通常什麼都賣，根據店面規模提供各種商品，包括藥品、化妝品、衛生用品、清潔用品，甚至還有零食與飲料。商品種類非常豐富，且常有促銷價。即使沒有促銷，Drug Store 商品售價相當親民。你可以自由逛店，沒有人員主動服務，需要幫忙時可以尋找工作人員。
大城市隨處可見 Drug Store。有些連鎖店分店數量驚人。店家通常營業時間很長，方便當地人與觀光客隨時採買。還有一項利多：遊客出示護照多能享有免稅購物優惠！
Daikoku Drug
這間連鎖藥妝以藥品和化妝品低價著稱，某些日子更有特價活動。分店遍佈日本各地。
Matsumoto Kiyoshi
這是日本最大的都道府縣藥妝連鎖店，商品種類超齊全，還能找到其他地方見不到的品牌。大多數門市24小時營業，不過價格通常比其他藥妝店貴一點。
Don Quiote
這間連鎖有300家分店，商品橫跨藥妝、服飾、家用品、電器等。獨特的快速折價券可於現場機器即印出。Don Quiote 多數分店也是24小時營業。
Sun Drug
主力項目是化妝與護膚產品，價格平易近人，節日經常還有額外九折活動。
Kokumin
這裡以暢銷日系藥妝、藥品、健康食品為主。你只要出示護照，還可以多拿一波旅客特別折扣！
