日本鐵路（JR）

日本鐵路（Japan Rail／JR），原為國營、現已民營化，經營全國最龐大的鐵路網路。特別值得一提的是新幹線高速列車，可在最短時間內連接城市。持有JR Rail Pass的旅客（僅限觀光客）能在特定期間內以極高的性價比不限次數搭乘JR列車。

私營鐵路

夜行列車僅有東京發往高松或出雲方向，配有私人車廂，提供舒適夜車體驗。由於名額有限，必須及早預訂。
