A Korean meal fills the table at Han Kook Kwan in Düsseldorf, photographed from above. A round metal grill is set into the wooden tabletop on the left, waiting for barbecue, while the rest of the surface is packed with dishes. At the top sits a black stone pot of bubbling soup next to a steel bowl of white rice, and at the bottom a hot stone bowl holds a glossy stir-fry of vegetables and meat sprinkled with sesame seeds. Between them, eight small white dishes of banchan line up in two neat rows: braised potatoes, kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, shredded vegetable salad, marinated chicken pieces, green beans, cooked zucchini, and cabbage kimchi in chili sauce. Metal chopsticks and spoons rest on napkins at the edges, with a water glass and a dark soda close by, giving the whole spread the feel of a generous, shared Korean dinner.

Korea House in Düsseldorf’s Little Tokyo is a top spot for authentic Korean cuisine. Visitors praise the flavorful dishes like bibimbap, fried chicken, tteokbokki, and Korean BBQ. The portions are generous, prices are fair, and service is fast thanks to a convenient QR code system. The staff are friendly, and the side dishes come free and plentiful. While the atmosphere is casual and sometimes crowded, it feels cozy and often reminds guests of being in Korea. Some mention smoke from the BBQ and a lack of ventilation, but overall, it's highly recommended—especially with a reservation.

The entrance of Korea Haus, a Korean restaurant in Düsseldorf, shown from the street. A wide yellow sign stretches across the facade reading "KOREA HAUS" alongside the Korean name 한국관 and a red-and-blue taegeuk symbol, with the characters 韓國館 printed beneath it. Round wall lamps flank the sign on either side. Below, the large storefront window has "KOREA RESTAURANT" spelled out in white lettering across the glass. The display behind it is styled like a traditional Korean interior: a dark wooden door painted with another taegeuk symbol sits at the center, framed by rough stone-textured panels. White ceramic bottles and vases line the base of the window, orchids add touches of purple, and paper lanterns hang inside. A man in a dark jacket stands at the right edge of the frame, pausing to look in at the display.

    Han Kook Kwan

Eight small white bowls fill the frame from above, set in two neat rows of four on a dark wooden table. Each holds a different Korean side dish: braised potato chunks, leafy greens with shredded carrot, seasoned bean sprouts, and a tangle of yellow shredded vegetable across the top; chili-coated radish cubes, whole green beans, cucumber kimchi, and a bowl of napa cabbage kimchi in red pepper along the bottom. This is the banchan spread at Han Kook Kwan, the Korea House restaurant in Düsseldorf, the collection of small dishes served alongside a Korean meal.

A rough dark stone bowl, set on a wooden base, holds a glossy Korean stir-fry coated in red chili sauce: pieces of octopus mixed with zucchini, carrot strips, mushrooms, napa cabbage and thick chunks of green onion, finished with a scattering of sesame seeds. A pair of metal chopsticks rests across the rim of the hot bowl. Behind it, the table is lined with a row of small white bowls holding banchan, the side dishes that come with a Korean meal, and a glass of water sits at the right edge. The spread reads as a Korean restaurant table set for a hearty, shared dinner.

A Korean meal fills a polished wooden table at Han Kook Kwan, the Korea House restaurant in Düsseldorf. In the foreground a black stone pot holds a bubbling broth with tofu and greens still simmering, and beside it sits a metal bowl heaped with white rice. Behind them stretches the classic line-up of banchan: small white dishes with kimchi, pickled zucchini, green beans, bean sprouts, and other seasoned vegetables. Farther back, a second stone bowl holds a stir-fried vegetable dish, a glass of water and a spoon rest at the left, and the edge of a tabletop grill peeks in at the right. A diner in dark clothing sits across the table, hands folded near the food, giving the scene the feel of a meal just about to begin.
