Tofu - The plant-based protein bomb

Do you like tofu? Then you’ll definitely enjoy this dish.  Did you know that tofu has got an average protein content of 9 gr / 100 gr? This plant-based protein is not only healthy, it’s also a fantastic source of protein in your diet. 

Raw tofu

For this side dish you need to use silken tofu. You can get cheap and fresh tofu in Asian supermarkets. It’s available for as little as 1 Euro and it’s really delicious. In case you can’t find silken tofu, don’t make this recipe! For this recipe the tofu doesn’t get cooked or fried. It’s consumed raw. This is not a problem as silken tofu is made for the immediate consumption. With its silky texture it literally melts in your mouth. Along with the spicy sauce this raw tofu dish will be perfect in taste.  Eating this dish is as much fun as preparing it. The sauce adds a fresh and slightly spicy flavour to it. The tofu is best eaten with a spoon with the sauce as a topping. How yummy :-)

Preparation

  1. Put all the ingredients for the sauce into a bowl and mix well. Always prepare the sauce first so that the ingredients blend well with each other. The smell of the sauce is a sensation for the nose. This is exactly how a good and spicy sauce should smell.

  2. Open the tofu packet and drain the water. Let the raw tofu slide onto a plate, it should come out of the packet on its own. But be careful! Silken tofu is very soft and can easily break when slightly shaken.

  3. Pat the tofu dry as some water will have collected on the plate.

  4. Chop the tofu into cubes and drizzle the sauce onto the tofu cubes.

  5. Your yummy side dish is ready.
