First wash the mussels with a clean kitchen sponge. Also use cold water for this. You can also do without washing, but watch the video. There's a lot of dirt accumulating. Sort out any mussels that are already broken, open or floating on the surface.

Now cut the 3 other ingredients into generous pieces. They serve to refine the soup and are not actually eaten.

Fill all the ingredients into a pot and bring everything to a boil. As soon as the soup boils, let it boil for another 10 minutes. The mussels should now all have opened.
