The left half is shot at night: a man in a light jacket and khaki pants stands on the warm terracotta tile of the entryway, looking toward glass double doors framed by shoji-style lattice windows. Red and pink paper lanterns hang in a row under the eaves, and a glowing lantern light sits beside the door while another guest with a backpack waits nearby. The right half moves inside, where dark wooden tables and chairs fill a small, warmly lit room. A big red lantern printed with Japanese characters hangs on a dark post, a round white paper lantern glows overhead, and the walls are packed with colorful banners and paper signs, including a blue "Samurai" banner. Soy sauce bottles and paper menus rest on the tables, giving the space a cozy, well-worn izakaya feel.

The image is a two-part photo of menus from Izakaya Masa, a Japanese restaurant in San Diego, laid out on a white marble table. On the left, a closed menu sits in a black leatherette binder. The cream cover shows a circular black logo with the character 正, the restaurant's name in both Japanese and English, and a note that it is an authentic Japanese izakaya. Below it are a folded paper napkin and a wooden chopstick sleeve printed with the restaurant's name and logo. On the right, the menu is open to show its full contents, organized into hand-lettered section headings circled in red marker: Cold Appetizers, Hot Appetizers, Sushi, Rolls, Special Rolls, Sashimi, Deepfried, Salad & Soup, Tempura, Donburi, Noodles, Curry, and Ochazuke. Each section lists dishes with prices, and small illustrations appear next to some headings, giving the menu a casual, handwritten feel.

A five-panel collage from a meal at Izakaya Masa in San Diego, arranged side by side on white marble tables. The first panel holds a ramen bowl with sliced pork chashu, corn, bamboo shoots, and a sheet of nori, with a white soup spoon resting inside. Next to it, a second ramen bowl with a lighter broth, greens, mushrooms, and seaweed, and a glass of beer just behind it. The middle panel shows the in-between courses: an empty red-lacquered bowl above a black bowl piled with edamame pods. Then dessert, an orange frozen treat that looks like a whole mandarin but reveals pale swirled cream once cut, served on a pink plate printed with cherry blossoms. The last panel is the beer itself, a bottle of Asahi Super Dry.
