A four-photo collage from around Fukui Station in Japan, a place that takes its dinosaur obsession seriously. In the top left, a woman with a shoulder bag stands at a crossing facing the station square, where big gray dinosaur statues rise among the trees in front of the station building and a construction crane looms over the rooftops. The top right shot looks out from under the station's sweeping glass-and-steel canopy, down onto the curved roof of the bus terminal and the city blocks beyond, all signed in Japanese. The bottom two photos get closer to the theme. One shows a large mural on a white tiled wall of a triceratops bursting straight through the surface, its frill and horns breaking out of the fractured tiles, with orange traffic cones at its base. The other captures one of Fukui's green, white and blue streetcars stopped at its platform, its side decorated with cartoon characters, while a single passenger waits under the canopy.

The other two photos show a museum café meal: a fried chicken burger with french fries on a white plate, a mug of black coffee, and a Coca-Cola branded cup topped with foam dusted with a dinosaur skeleton design in cinnamon, served on a gray table.

The image pairs two photos of the Tojinbo cliffs on the Sea of Japan coast in Fukui, taken from the clifftop viewpoint. On the left, a daytime view shows the rugged, columnar rock formations plunging into calm grey-blue water. Bright green bushes and grasses fill the foreground, and a few dark rocky islets rise just offshore under a soft, cloud-streaked sky. On the right, the same coastline at sunset: the sun sits low on the horizon, throwing a shimmering band of light across the sea, while wispy clouds drift through a deepening blue sky. A grassy headland with a dark green island in the distance fills the right side, and a simple wooden railing at the bottom marks the edge of the viewing spot.

The image is a side-by-side pair of photos from the coast of Fukui, Japan. On the left, a bright red pedestrian bridge with matching railings leads straight toward a white torii gate standing at the foot of a steep cliff covered in dense green trees. Sea water shows on both sides of the bridge under a partly cloudy blue sky. On the right, a sunset over the ocean. The low sun hovers just above the horizon, throwing a long golden-orange reflection across the calm water, while thick dark clouds fill most of the sky. Dark grasses and rocks in the foreground frame the view out to sea.

A wooden bridge crosses a castle moat toward a traditional gatehouse with a tiled roof, part of Fukui Castle in central Fukui. The bridge deck is covered by temporary green matting marked with yellow arrows and the Japanese words 歩行者安全通路, meaning pedestrian safety path, a sign that restoration work is underway. Small wooden barriers and warning signs block the way across. Low stone walls frame the gate, and wooden railings topped with green onion-shaped finials line both sides of the bridge. To the right stands a roofed wooden information board, to the left a stone bench under a leafy tree. Behind the gate, a modern beige office building rises above the old walls, a reminder that the castle grounds sit in the middle of the city. The sky is blue with scattered clouds.

Two views of sauce katsu don, the breaded pork cutlet dish that Fukui is known for. On the left, several glossy, deep-fried cutlets in a dark brown sauce sit piled over white rice in a red lacquer bowl, a tiny green garnish on top. The bowl rests on a wooden tray in a casual restaurant, with a small ceramic pot and a menu card visible behind it. The right photo shows the same dish served differently: cutlets stacked on a wire mesh rack set into a long white plate, so excess sauce and oil drain away, with a ruffled mound of shredded cabbage alongside and sauce pooled at the edge. The plate sits on a light wooden counter next to a glass of water.

Echizen Oroshi Soba
A plate of Echizen oroshi soba sits on a warm wooden restaurant table in Fukui. The gray buckwheat noodles are loosely nested on a wide, speckled ceramic plate and topped with a mound of grated daikon, chopped green onion, and fluffy bonito flakes, with a light amber broth pooling around them. Next to the plate are a glazed ceramic teacup with red and brown streaks and a small dark pitcher of sauce. At the edge of the frame, a second bowl holds yellow noodles with cabbage and pickled ginger, part of the same meal.

The entrance sits below a glass-fronted building, with a lit canopy, glass doors, and a bicycle parked out front. On the right, a tall gray stone pillar carries the hotel's gold crest logo, the name "APA Hotel Fukui-Katamachi" with a phone number, and a black plaque advertising the on-site APA-SPA, a large natural hot spring bath open from 6 a.m. to midnight, with the details written in Japanese. Buildings and a cloudy sky fill the background of both shots.
