Yi Xiang Yuan Experience Chinese restaurant and noodle bar in Mannheim

I often go to Mannheim for private reasons and I have missed one thing in Mannheim and the Rhine-Neckar region. To eat properly Asian food, more precisely to eat Chinese food. Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, I love to eat in Asian restaurants. Unfortunately, Mannheim does not offer many good Asian restaurants. One restaurant I know in Mannheim's city centre is called "Asia Food Ichi". Apart from another Korean restaurant, which is quite ok, there isn't much more that's really good! I guess I'm used to the luxury of Asian restaurants in Düsseldorf and surrounding areas.

However, another super delicious Chinese restaurant has now opened in Mannheim. The "Yi Xiang Yuan" is a new Chinese restaurant in Mannheim's Quadrant M4,5 and specializes in authentic noodle soups and noodle dishes. The noodle bar also offers a few other rice dishes and small side dishes. Most of the dishes come from Chinese cuisine or Hong Kong cuisine. There are also a few Japanese and Korean dishes. However, I recommend choosing between the Chinese and Hong Kong dishes. In the short time it has been open, I have already tried all 13 noodle dishes.

The noodles are homemade

One special feature that makes a really good noodle bar is that the noodles are freshly made. At Yi Xiang Yuan, the noodles are freshly prepared every day and they taste like it: nice and firm, full of flavour and they fill you up! Perfect! I think the noodles come into their own with every recipe.

The menu

The menu at Yi Xiang Yuan is not exactly big. In total, the Chinese restaurant in Mannheim offers 13 noodle dishes and 8 rice dishes. There are also a few side dishes. Sometimes there are also weekly specials, which are usually not on the menu. In the title picture, I have chosen the delicious steamed dumplings, which are filled with pork. Very delicious.
Another recommendation is also 2 special Chinese drinks, which are freshly mixed: rice lemonade and sparkling milk. These 2 drinks are a popular refreshment in China and you should definitely try them on your visit. With every order, you will also receive a small salad side dish, which is pickled sourly.

The Chinese restaurant is open for noodle hungry people from Mon - Sat from 11:30 am to 10:00 pm and on Sundays and public holidays from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm!

Conclusion and rating

The small Chinese restaurant "Yi Xiang Yuan" has secured a good spot in the middle of Mannheim's city centre. Located close to the University of Mannheim, it also offers students a welcome change at lunchtime. In addition, the dishes, although not all of them are of Chinese origin, are very delicious and affordable. The delicious noodles are also made in-house and round off the noodle dishes. I recommend you try the noodle dishes here too. Especially tasty is number N4; a noodle soup with lamb broth, number N8; Zhajiang, noodles with spicy sauce and number N12; spicy noodles Sichuan style.

My overall rating
10/10 : This Asian restaurant finally offers Mannheim another genuine Chinese restaurant that is not necessarily tailored to the western palate. The price-performance ratio is very good and the taste of the noodle dishes I have tried so far were all wonderful. In Mannheim and the Rhine-Neckar region, in my experience, there is currently nothing comparable (open to enlightenment). The only obstacle for Germans may be the unfamiliar menu. This does not necessarily tell the customer what exactly is behind the description. Then better ask the friendly staff and get advice. However, bear in mind that this review is based on my opinion and I have a great interest in Asian cuisine :). I hope you will stop by here on your next visit to Mannheim's city centre.
