Tsun-Gai at a Glance
Tsun Gai is a small Chinese restaurant near Oststrasse in Düsseldorf. Unfortunately, the restaurant is hard to find due to its size but makes a positive impression and is also very authentic. The food there tastes super delicious and can compete with the expensive Japanese, Korean and Chinese restaurants on many levels. It's very important to mention that this is not an All You Can Eat restaurant or a simple Chinese snack bar with fried noodles.

Tsun-Gai - My new favorite dish?
Before visiting the restaurant with my family, I had been on a business trip to China a week earlier. Because of this and the fact that I am Japanese, it is easy for me to assess Chinese cuisine. Since my family and I always love to go out for Japanese, Korean or Chinese food and we had been eating Japanese the last few times, it was now time for Chinese. The typical Chinese décor in the restaurant was authentic. Unfortunately, I couldn't take that many photos because, as I mentioned, I was there for a private meal. We ordered tofu with thousand-year-old eggs (long-fermented eggs). This was my first experience with the dish and it tasted great. We also ordered steamed rice balls, young broccoli, scallops with glass noodles and garlic, and many other dishes. We had Yasmin tea to drink, which went very well with the food. It tasted exactly like China, in my opinion, and everyone was satisfied with the food. Another thing worth mentioning was the typical round table with the rotating plate on it. All the food was ordered at once and then came one after the other on this plate, which you could rotate to get the food you wanted.
Since I was raised partly German and partly Japanese, I know the culture of these two countries. However, the Chinese culture is very different from them. For example, it is quite normal for children to play and sing loudly in restaurants, or for adults to talk loudly to each other. Since this is common in China, you should accept these customs and expect them. Slurping is also part of it.
The shop offered the possibility to pay with an EC card, but we were kindly advised that it would be better to pay cash.
At €25 per person, the price was reasonable, but fair for the food.
Our Conclusion
The small, but very delicious Chinese restaurant surprised me and my family. The wide selection of traditional Chinese dishes and the nice atmosphere make this restaurant a great experience.
