The preparation:

  1. Prepare Onigiri & cook rice following these instructions. As this recipe only describes the filling, the Onigiri basic recipe explains all the important things about Onigiri.

  2. For the filling, you only need to mix Katsuobushi with soy sauce. The soy sauce should be completely absorbed by the Katsobushi. Because if too much soy sauce is mixed with the bonito flakes, the Onigiri may become too watery and fall apart. That would be bad.

  3. Form the Katsuobushi into a small lump and put it into the pre-made hole.

  4. Then close the hole and wrap it with Nori.

  5. That's it! Ittadakimasu (^_^)

Onigiri are triangular Japanese rice balls made from rice, water and a filling of fish, meat or vegetables. To prevent the hands from sticking to the rice, a nori leaf is usually wrapped around the onigiri. Because onigiri are handy, delicious, durable and inexpensive, they are popular in Japan and also in Germany. Whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner or as a snack, onigiri are always suitable.

This recipe is a guide for the Ume Onigiri filling. This means that only the filling is explained here. But don't worry, you can find the Onigiri Basic Recipe . Katsuobushi is one of the traditional Ongiri types. It is made from bonito flakes (tuna flakes) and soy sauce. Since Katsuobushi (bonito flakes) is dried, it cannot rot quickly either. Therefore, you don't have to worry about transporting this onigiri, even in summer.
