This is a stylized illustration in a Japanese woodblock-print style. A large navy spiral storm, drawn with sweeping brushstrokes like a typhoon, swirls to the right of a navy silhouette of the Japanese archipelago, suggesting a storm approaching the country. In the lower left stands a dark blue rolling suitcase with a straw hat resting on top, evoking holiday travel. Red maple leaves drift from a branch at the upper left, and low navy mountains line the horizon against an off-white background.

    TL;DR

A tropical depression south of Japan is forecast to become a typhoon by Wednesday evening, with a possible approach to Japan’s main island during the long holiday period. An earlier report highlighted potential effects on Okinawa around Silver Week.

A tropical depression in the Pacific Ocean south of Japan is forecast to strengthen into a typhoon by 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, according to The Japan News. The developing storm may approach Japan’s main island during the long holiday period.

    Possible Approach During Silver Week

The September 16 report describes typhoon formation as a forecast, rather than a confirmed development, and a holiday-period approach remains a possibility.

An earlier report published by News On Japan on September 14 described a system far south of Japan that could develop into a typhoon and potentially affect Okinawa around Silver Week.

Earlier Forecast Highlighted Ogasawara and Okinawa

According to the September 14 report, the system was expected to strengthen while moving westward, approaching the Ogasawara Islands around Friday before potentially affecting the Okinawa region during the holiday period.

The reports differ in their geographic emphasis: the earlier account highlights possible effects on Okinawa, while the September 16 headline raises the possibility of an approach to Japan’s main island. Neither account establishes a confirmed landfall.

Rain Front and Heat Also in the Outlook

Separately, the September 14 report said an autumn rain front was bringing heavy rain to areas along the Sea of Japan coast, with intense rainfall threatening areas from Kanto to Kyushu from September 15.

That report also forecast a return to clear weather in Kanto after an extended spell of unsettled conditions, accompanied by another round of severe late-summer heat.
