    Summary

Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is a vibrant metropolis where tradition meets modernity, offering a wealth of experiences from historical landmarks to a dynamic nightlife. The journey begins with the bustling energy of the city, characterized by a chaotic yet organized traffic scene dominated by motorbikes. Navigating the city is convenient with the Grap Taxi app, which allows users to order rides and meals easily, though caution is advised regarding safety standards in taxis. Key attractions include the Notre Dame Cathedral, currently being restored, and the Old Post Office, a charming building ideal for purchasing souvenirs. The scenic riverside along the Song Sai Gon River offers a peaceful escape from the city's frenzy, while Đ. Bùi Viện Street serves as the nightlife hub, teeming with bars and dancing crowds, making it a must-visit for party enthusiasts.

Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, is a vibrant metropolis that combines tradition and modernity in a fascinating way. In this travel report, I would like to share my impressions and experiences from this exciting city. From historical landmarks to lively nightlife, there is much to discover here.

    Arrival and First Impressions

Our journey began with a flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Even upon leaving the airport, I felt the city's dynamism. The streets were full of motorbikes, cars, and people – a lively chaos that still has a certain order. I noticed that the city is quite modern. Of course, not as modern as Tokyo, but still more modern than other cities in Vietnam.

    Transport and Mobility

    The Grab Taxi App

One of the best ways to get around Ho Chi Minh is the Grab Taxi App. Similar to Uber, this app allows for easy ordering of taxis. A major advantage is that you can see the price before the ride and conveniently pay by credit card. Additionally, you can also order food through the app – perfect for days when you're simply too lazy to leave the hotel room.

    Safety and Comfort

A minor drawback is the safety standards of the taxis. Often, the cars do not have functioning seat belts in the back, which is particularly questionable given the high accident and fatality rates in the region's traffic. Sometimes the belts are even intentionally locked or inaccessible. This is definitely an aspect to keep in mind.

    Sightseeing in Ho Chi Minh

    Notre Dame

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the Notre Dame of Saigon. Unfortunately, it was under restoration during our stay, so we couldn't see everything. Nevertheless, it was fascinating to see a Catholic church in a predominantly Buddhist country – a remnant of Vietnam's colonial past.

    Old Post Office of Saigon

Right next to the Notre Dame is the Old Post Office of Saigon. It is a beautiful building and perfect for buying souvenirs or sending postcards. It is definitely worth a stop for a short visit, even if it is not particularly unique.

Riverside of the Song Sai Gon River

The banks of the Song Sai Gon River offer a welcome respite from the hectic city life. Particularly, the area at Bến Bạch Đằng is worth a visit, where you can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere alongside luxurious 5-star hotels. It is not a must, but a nice option for a relaxed walk.

The Nightlife of Ho Chi Minh

    Đ. Bùi Viện Street

Đ. Bùi Viện Street is the epicenter of nightlife in Ho Chi Minh. Here, one bar follows another, and the streets are full of dancing people. It is loud, chaotic, and exactly the right place if you want to let loose. For partygoers, this street is an absolute must.

    Rooftop Bars and Clubs

If you want to enjoy the nightlife from a somewhat quieter perspective, rooftop bars and clubs are the perfect choice. The visit to "Banana Mama Rooftop Bar & Kitchen Saigon" was particularly impressive, from where you can have a breathtaking view of Ho Chi Minh's skyline. Especially at night, the view is spectacular.

    Accommodation in Ho Chi Minh

    Asian Ruby Boutique Hotel

Our hotel, the Asian Ruby Boutique Hotel, was an affordable option in the city center. It was simple but offered everything you need for a good night's rest. Only downside: the rooms had no windows, which can feel a bit claustrophobic. But for the price, it was acceptable.

Conclusion: Why Ho Chi Minh is Worth a Visit

Ho Chi Minh City is a city full of surprises. From historical buildings to lively streets to a pulsating nightlife – there is something here for everyone. Despite minor inconveniences, such as the missing seat belts in taxis or windowless hotel rooms, Ho Chi Minh is definitely worth a visit.
