Arrival and First Impressions
Flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Buôn Ma Thuột
Our journey began with a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Buôn Ma Thuột. Since the city is very remote, this was the most convenient and fastest way to travel. The flight lasted only about an hour, and we were rewarded with a breathtaking view of Vietnam's green landscapes.
Transportation Options on Site
Upon arriving in Buôn Ma Thuột, we used the Grab Taxi App to get around. The app works similarly to Uber and allows you to pay for rides conveniently with a credit card. Prices are visible in advance, eliminating the need for negotiations. One downside: Many cars do not have functioning seat belts in the back, which is somewhat concerning in a country with high accident rates. Nevertheless, the app is a practical way to move quickly and safely.
The Natural Wonders of Buôn Ma Thuột
Đray Nur Waterfall
One of the first highlights of our trip was the Đray Nur Waterfall. The entrance fee is 30,000 VND per person, which is about €1 or $1. We did not incur additional parking fees since we did not have a vehicle with us. The waterfall is a true natural wonder and a perfect place for photos and relaxation.
Thác Đray Sáp and the Jungle Trail
We found the Thác Đray Sáp even more impressive, which can be reached after a 20 to 30-minute jungle trail from the Đray Nur Waterfall. The entrance to Thác Đray Sáp also includes access to a small zoo. The path through the dense jungle was adventurous, and we took malaria prophylaxis and used mosquito repellent for protection. These precautions proved very effective, as we were hardly bitten.

The Coffee Museum
Another highlight for coffee lovers is the Coffee Museum. The entrance fee is 75,000 VND, which is about €3 or $3. Special experiences like the Coffee Zen Show cost extra. The museum offers a variety of information and exhibits about coffee and its production. In addition to international attractions, there were also German devices and coffee to discover. Interestingly, we also met many German tourists here.
Accommodation and Food
Hami Garden
Our stay at Hami Garden was very pleasant. The hotel features a shared pool that can also be used at night. The security service can even turn on the lights upon request. The only downside: the hotel is far from the city center and can only be reached by taxi.

ARUL HOUSE - Restaurant
A culinary highlight was our visit to ARUL HOUSE. The restaurant offers a selection of local dishes and is slightly more expensive, but definitely worth every penny. We enjoyed lemongrass mint tea, banana blossom salad with chicken, smoked beef, ginger pork in bamboo, and black rice.
Practical Tips for Travelers
Safety Precautions and Vaccinations
Before our trip, we refreshed and got new vaccinations, especially because of the food and mosquitoes in the region. Additionally, we took malaria prophylaxis and regularly used mosquito repellent. These precautions protected us well.
Using the Grab Taxi App
The Grab Taxi App proved to be extremely useful for our daily rides. It is user-friendly and saves you the hassle of negotiating prices. Food deliveries can also be ordered through the app – ideal when you're too lazy to go out.
Conclusion: From the Deep Jungle to Rich Coffee Culture
Buôn Ma Thuột enchanted us with its wild nature and rich coffee culture. From the thundering waterfalls and adventurous jungle trails to the coffee enjoyment in the Coffee Village – this trip was a feast for all senses.
