    Edible Mikados

You might even know these tasty sticks! The edible Mikados are also available in Germany - but their origin is in Japan. They have been there since the 1960s! The crispy sticks are particularly popular as a small snack at festivals and anniversary celebrations.

The best-known brands that make edible Mikados are Pocky and Pretz. While Pocky has more sweet flavors in stock, Pretz offers savory variations of the delicious sticks.

    Pocky - sweet and delicious

The individual sticks consist of crispy bread dough, which is coated on one side with a chocolate coating. In Japan, however, the Mikados come in a variety of flavors, not just with chocolate. For example, you get variations like strawberry, matcha, but also vanilla and hazelnut.

By the way: There are regional Pocky variations, such as Yubari melon from the Hokkaido region and Shinshu grapes from Nagano, as well as seasonal special editions.

    Pretz - crispy and salty

These snacks are made from pretzel dough with different savory vegetable and spice flavors. For example, there are sticks with tomato, corn, but also soup and Thai salad flavors.

In Germany, you mainly get the classic with chocolate coating. The other Mikado variations can be ordered online from specialty stores. They are, of course, a bit more expensive than in Japan, but not impossible!
