ginnan

A small pile of ginnan, the peeled seeds of the ginkgo tree, sits on white paper. About a dozen of them are heaped together, each one a vivid jade green with a glossy, almost translucent sheen that catches the light. They are oval and slightly irregular, some with faint traces of papery skin clinging to the surface, and they look moist, the way fresh or lightly cooked ginkgo seeds do. The plain white background makes the green color stand out even more, and a sliver of something dark at the lower edge is the only other thing in the frame.
